Happening around here

A creative life puts me in touch with like-minded people and I love it! Almost everywhere I look I see people who are using their creative instincts to live, love, play and work in such diverse ways. Whether it is a business solution, a hobby or a community event there are untold creative opportunities for everyone to get involved with.

The listings here are my own promotions and also information on events and opportunities that appeal to me.   Have a browse and get in touch when you want to get involved.

Enjoy!

Oamaru Stone Sculpture Workshops

The greatest thing about sharing my sculpting experience is watching the results that are achieved by people who once believed that they weren`t creative! Its such a wonderful medium to work.   I have worked with homeschool groups including children as young as 4, right through to adults. This is something for all abilities. You could expect to finish a simple piece of work in one day.

Sculpture Play Symposium

4 April to 13 April 2009, Palmerston North

This inaugural event brought together 11 sculptors, experienced and novice to work on lime stone over 10 days. With registration options that encouraged part or full time participation this event focused on small works. Those works which sold to the visiting public were small pieces which allowed for easy transport.

Please contact me to register your interest in this annual event. Get sculpting surrounded by other artists without leaving your life for weeks to make it happen.

Don`t you love getting free stuff on the radio? I teamed up with Classic Hits to give one lucky lady a day out in the dust. Chris had not tried sculpting before and this turned into a great day for her.

This work was the result of a two day workshop in Levin.   Two of the participants finished a piece each day. Incredibly different styles.

Artisan Swap Meet

Palmerston North

Artist and Creators are always on the look out for materials. As your creative journey changes you may leave behind some of the styles and mediums you have gathered up. This is where the Artisan Swap Meet can be a real opportunity.

An event designed to market your surplus art materials to other artists and the public. You know what it is like to let school children into a room full of art materials! So now is your chance. A great way to turn your treasure trove into cash for your next creative exppression. Start looking around! I have pottery, leadlighting, sewing, and mosaic surpluses that I would like to market. This event would be great for your finished works too. Send me an e-mail to register your interest.

Carla does a Shave for a Cure

Palmerston North   | 14 March 2009

Shave for a Cure were represented at Bunnings recently and I asked the Classic Hits guy to drum up a $1000 of pledges and he could shave my head. So after talking me down to $500 and putting in $100 himself I very quickly became shorter and tidier!   The `wine` shot is me a few weeks earlier with hair. That was at the Charity event in Taihape to raise funds for the O`Taihape Health Trust to buy a infant resucitator.

Shave for a cure are working towards shaving 10000 people this year which represents each person in New Zealand living with a blood cancer today.

Doing the shave was an exercise in freedom. I am free from illness controlling my life. As the clippers buzzed my hair away I knew that my hair would grow back. I could do this crazy thing and change the state of someones life.

Go to Shave for a cure campaign to find out more.

Wood-fired Pizza Ovens | 2009

Manawatu

I am preparing to hold a series of workshops on building your own Wood-fired Pizza Oven. These will be held at Newbury and will use a core and flue method which has been on the market for 10 years. At this stage although preparations are slow due to the `round to it` factor I would like to hear from anyone who is interested. You might like to attend the workshops, get e-mail updates on the oven progress or be able to see the finished oven. What ever your interest let me know and you will be updated as I go. Yummy! I`m visualising lamb, rosemary and feta pizza!
